Administered by Clinton Slayton and Wes Miller (both in the U.S.) with over 60 Y results, including SNP tests. Financial constraints do not allow all of these to show online at Family Tree DNA. We invite participation from anywhere in the world, and have contacts in the UK, Germany and Sweden.

If you are interested, copy and paste this into your browser and bookmark: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/SSSFP_YDNA/

All direct male descendants of a suspected Sladen, Slaton or Slatten heritage, regardless of adoption of other surnames, or national/ethnic origin, are welcome to JOIN their results on Family Tree DNA. Since the site does not display full names, the data you enter for the oldest suspected (Most Distant Paternal Ancestor Name or PAN) is quite important and required for membership, unless unknown because of adoption or to protect a living person's privacy. We are especially interested in determining British Isles or other Eastern Hemisphere lines.

Females with autosomal results or as sponsors of males are equally welcome, but autosomal and mitochondrial results will not appear in the online grid, and because the yDNA results are publicly viewable, we reserve the right to limit "membership" to the Project. But we welcome the autosomal results as long as we admins are given at least Limited, but preferably Advanced access, so that we can see the matches.

We encourage genomic testing for SNPs as an extension of Y-STR tests, but recognize that the added expense might be prohibitive, and in some cases, we can help defray some of the costs, as funding allows.

As mentioned, we encourage members to grant Advanced access to our project by any sampling participant, so that we can help interpret the results and provide financial assistance, which is not possible with Minimum or Limited access.

Operating Philosophy: YDNA is a helpful tool in conjunction with genealogical research using standards based on such literature as authored by Wilbur Helmbold, Milton Rubincam and Eugene A Stratton. The two tools can work together, but neither is conclusive alone.

The largest pools so far are American in genealogical evidence, we seek a connection to earlier geographical origins.

Descendants of Arthur & Rachel Slayden (fl ca 1730-1787) of Virginia, USA, haplogroup I-P37 (I-P37.2)

Descendants of John, George and Major (and possibly William) Slaten/Slatton (adults in 1771) in North Carolina > South Carolina, USA, haplogroup I-M253

Shortcut codes used in discussing and writing about some of the family groups separated by differing yDNA pools:

"A&R" = Arthur & Rachel Slayden, New Kent > Goochland counties Virginia, USA.

"Carolina" = Descendants of John, George, Major and possibly a William Slaten (in 1771 NC tax list).

"Thomas & Hannah Slayton (Mass)" = A line begun in Massachusetts, USA.

Results from British lines (rooted in Kent and Lancashire) are posted and more results are hoped for in the future. (Anyone who has a known British Isles or European YDNA ancestor with our target surname is being sought for this project.)

We are allowing some non-Slaton male results to show, as a proof of concept, when these families are known to have married into, or lived in certain communities in common with the Slaton/Slattons, or have high match and close estimated "genetic distance" to a possible common male ancestor. This might include adoptees who know or suspect a Slaton/Slatton ancestor but do not carry the name, or those who carry the name but suspect an adoption or female Slaton lineage.
Specific research projects on the part of the administrators: some "families of interest" results are specific to the adminstrators' extended families, for their personal research. Some contacts who have helped with genetic research but are not related in any meaningful way are included.

We also encourage members to share their results with specific haplogroup projects.
